Current Record: Creating Brilliant Colors – Yarn Dyeing with Cait Throop![]()
Spend a day mixing dyes, winding skeins, soaking yarn, and dyeing skeins with fiber-reactive, permanent dyes. Messy but fun! Wear old clothes and maybe an apron. I will provide latex gloves. After we dye all the skeins we will wrap them in saran wrap and they have to be left for 24 hours to set. When they are ready, I will rinse them and hang them to dry. You are welcome to come back to visit the yarns when they are dry. Could also bring your own yarn providing it is rayon or cotton or a combo of rayon/cotton. You could then bring it home to set and rinse (in this case, bring a pail for transport of wet yarn).
I can accommodate 2 people. I generally start work at 9:30 am after chores and finish by 4 or 5 pm. I prefer to offer this during the week rather than weekends. Lunch and coffee provided. About Cait Throop: I have been weaving and designing for 16 years and continue to be intrigued and delighted by the amazing ways colors and textures can combine in weaving. I have taught weaving both on floor looms and on triangle looms and I love working with other fiber people. I also dye some of my yarns creating unique, variegated colored threads which I used in my wearables.
